The characteristcs and main advantage/disadvantage of MDF

Characteristics

 

 The surface of the MDF is smooth and flat, the material is fine, the performance is stable, the edge is firm, and the surface of the board has good decorative properties. But MDF has poor moisture resistance. In contrast, MDF has worse nail-holding power than particleboard, and if the screws are loosened after tightening, it is difficult to fix them at the same position.

 

 Main advantage

 

1. MDF is easy to be painted. All kinds of coatings and paints can be evenly coated on the MDF, which is the first choice for paint effect.
2. MDF is also thebeautiful decorative plate.
3. Various materials such as veneer, printing paper, PVC, adhesive paper film, melamine impregnated paper and light metal sheet can be veneered on the surface of MDF.
4. Hard MDF can be punched and drilled, and can also be made into sound-absorbing panels, which are used in building decoration projects.
5. The physical properties are excellent, the material is uniform, and there is no dehydration problem.

 

Main disadvantage

 

1. The biggest disadvantage of normal MDF is that it is not moisture-proof and swells when it toucheswater. When using MDF as skirting board, door skin board, and window sill board, it should be noted that all six sides are painted so that it will not be deformed.
2. The density board has a large swelling rate and large deformation when exposed to water, and the long-term load-bearing deformation is larger than that of the homogeneous solid wood particle board.

 Although the MDF has poor moisture resistance, the MDF surface is smooth and flat, the material is fine, the performance is stable, the edge is firm, and it is easy to shape, avoiding problems such as decay and moth-eaten. In terms of bending strength and impact strength, it is superior to particleboard, and the surface of the board is very decorative, which is better than the appearance of solid wood furniture.

3. MDF has poor nail-holding power. Because the fiber of MDF is very broken, the nail-holding power of MDF is much worse than that of solid wood board and particleboard.
