In the market, we often hear various names of wood-based panels, such as MDF, ecological board, and particle board. Different sellers have different opinions, making it confusing for people. Among them, some are similar in appearance but have different names due to different manufacturing processes, while others have different names but refer to the same type of wood-based panel. Here is a list of commonly used wood-based panel names:
– MDF: The MDF commonly mentioned in the market generally refers to fiberboard. Fiberboard is made by soaking wood, branches, and other objects in water, then crushing and pressing them.
– Particle board: Also known as chipboard, it is made by cutting various branches, small-diameter wood, fast-growing wood, and wood chips into certain specifications. It is then dried, mixed with adhesive, hardener, waterproofing agent, and pressed under a certain temperature and pressure to form an engineered panel.
– Plywood: Also known as multi-layer board, plywood, or fine core board, it is made by hot-pressing three or more layers of one millimeter thick veneers or thin boards.
– Solid wood board: It refers to wooden boards made from complete logs. Solid wood boards are generally classified according to the material (wood species) of the board, and there is no unified standard specification. Due to the high cost of solid wood boards and the high requirements for construction technology, they are not widely used in decoration.
